Welcome to Scotland's Premier Therapy and Holistic Personal Development Site'Therapeutic care & Personal Development - The solution to your problems is in you'Families and Groups CounsellingWe work with all types of families and groups with no bias or discrimination in relation to culture, colour, ethnic group, sexuality or other personal choices. ADULTS only.Whether in a traditional "family", a group, and extended family, a step family or a casual relationship(s) you can find that problems occur from time to time. Often these are communication based or about the distribution of power, space and responsibility. Some typical issues tend to pop up in certain types of relationship more than others, but generally it does not matter what the group type or sexuality is, such issues occur.
We actively work with:
- Traditional marriages and families - Non-traditional relationships - Gay and Lesbian and Bi-sexual relationships - Step families and carers
We also work with people in:
- No-faith relationships (atheist or secular support) - Same faith (both of the same religion / faith) - Mixed faith (different members of different faiths) - Pagan / Wiccan - Christian - Muslim - Multi-faith - All other faiths will also be supported without discrimination to the best of our ability.
Although there are typical problems that occur, each presentation tends to be different. This is because individuals are coming together, each with their own emotional state and issues, and then these are combining into a group "dynamic". Therefore sometimes there are problems for individuals to work on, and problems with the "dynamic" as well. Some of these issues may cause new issues and interact in weird and wonderful ways too!
All in all it is vital to have a flexible, multi-discipline approach to such work so as to be able to adapt to individual cases while remaining non-judgmental, non-assuming and non-discriminatory. Many of these are combined where appropriate in Transpersonal psychology / transpersonal psychotherapy. This does not mean having to convert to or follow any perticular faith or belief. Indeed a strength of transpersonal therapy is to look at common themes in faith and non-faith societies.
Sometimes support is offered to individuals from within a group that is in couple's therapy elsewhere, or to a group whose members are having individual therapy elsewhere. We are happy to be part of an over care package where appropriate. Sometimes there is an intervention by Social Services or another Statutory organisation. We can support in these cases, even where this is not the wish of the statutory body. We can also advise and support you in dealing with aggressive interventions by such organisations. Where a member of the group is under 18 years old, we need parent's or guardians consent to assist them, and a suitable adult must accompany them to sessions, although some of that session may occur with them "sitting out". Special confidentiality agreements also apply for under 16's. Stuart has experience of working for Social Services and has ASET Level 4 Awards in "Competence in Social Work" and "Social work and Mental Health".
